For over two centuries STB is a partner for the Oil and Gas industry. This allows us to fall back on a great wealth of experience, from which our customers profit. We supply mechanical seals for every application and always offer the right sealing concepts, designs and mechanical seal support systems. Our main target is to extend the lifetime of the mechanical seal, the machinery and to reduce the emission value. For the consultation, offering and order phase our highly skilled engineering team will assist you at any time. Our R & D department is constantly cooperating with our design department to

implement the newest developments in new seals and existing sealing designs. To ensure the quickest lead times and traceability at the same time is the aim of our internal processes. The oil and gas sector demands high performance materials like stainless steel, special alloys and titanium. Due to several cooperations with certified partners, we managed to keep stocks at their facilities by not taking any disadvantages on lead times.

Design of API 682 mechanical seal

All of the designed and manufactured mechanical seals from STB Engineering for the Oil and Gas industry are in accordance to the API (American Petroleum Institute) Standard 682. The new designs are according to the new API 682 Standard4th Edition. Every single application is counterchecked in accordance to the parameters of operation to achieve the best possible design.

The API is an accepted norm in the industry and allows standardization of the machinery in terms for seal connections, seal arrangements and to increase the safe and reliable operation of machinery.

API 6824 th Edition

The API 682 is the global leading standard for mechanical seals in the petrochemical, chemical and pipeline service industry. Main focus is on the mechanical seal design, testing procedures, standardization and a guide for suitable application. This shall help the purchaser to choose the right seal, for his individual application. The API 682 is an accepted document which competed and accomplished itself against several existing norms. The main issue with the published norms before the API 682 was that the seal itself has been seen as a marginal product, especially in the API 610, ANSI B73 and DIN 24960 while the main content covered pump standards. Creating the API 682 showed the industrial need for a standard which focuses on mechanical seals.

This was particularly driven by industry leading oil companies, and led to a circle of experts, consisting of members from the refining, mechanical seal and pump sector. Herein seal arrangements are being discussed and design regulations are created. These design regulations have been modified but in a great amount approved within the past years. We offer our customers API conforming mechanical seals and mechanical seal support systems combined with an outstanding service.

Quality

The Quality management is taking full responsibility for visualized processes. All the raw materials are checked, inspected and stored in a correct method due to restrictions made by the QM department. This high standard ensures traceability throughout, starting at the raw materials all the way to the customer. All of our suppliers are certified and documented in our systems. The manufacturing process is fully documented and reviewed in certain time intervals, which leads to a very high standard of quality.

Spare parts delivery

Main advantage of mechanical seals from STB is that we offer very short lead times for spare parts and many of them are from stock. Due to the highly equipped CNC production, our company is independent itself and we even offer in house seal face production, which is very unique in the sealing industry. We are holding 5-axis CNC turning and milling capacities on hold to ensure highest availability. This allows us to offer our customer the most individual service he deserves. Standard components, which are being purchased, are covered by minimal storage amounts, so we never run low on them. Due to modern CA-Designing software and implemented CAM systems, products can be to be manufactured in time to give our customers unparalleled service so they have trouble free sourcing processes.



Siron a Mechanical Seal

Siron for High pressure applications require special designs and materials to extend the lifetime of a mechanical seal. Due to innovative balanced seal design, STB is able to offer a seal which will meet the technical expectations of the industry. Especially multi stage pumps are a convenient field of application due to the high pressure surroundings and radial movement. API Code: 1CW-FX.

The Siron DPDM is a metal bellow cartridge seal, designed for high temperature applications and for applications with pressure drops. It offers to compensate a high amount of radial movement and absorbs vibration were other seals tend to fail. The DPDM is a API 682 3CW-FB mechanical seal.

Special API Seals S1350

This unique seal was developed for a Refinery complex in southeastern Europe. Its design consists of a product side with a wet mechanical seal and a dry gas atmospherically mechanical seal, as containment seal. Main advantage is the compensation of high pressures and especially pressure peeks up to 75 barg.

API D250 mechanical seal

Proven reliability

Key focus is the use of in field proven technology. Advanced components ensure highest operation reliability throughout rough conditions. The use of integrated pumping rings, forced cooling circulation paths toward the seal faces and highest quality standards ensure a maximum of machinery up time. This seal combines many API required features for a proper sealing plan. Available in standard multiple spring loaded seal faces or in metal bellow design it allows to fulfill the needs of a many applications. Where a forced circulation throughout an external pump is not available the pumping ring ensures a safe operation and heat transfer.

Mechanical seal support systems

With the massive global expansion of double mechanical seals in the petrochemical-, pharmaceutical- and process industry, support systems are a necessary solution. Mechanical seal support systems (MSSS) are able to extend the lifetime of a double acting mechanical seal and increase the equipment safety massively.

Main task of a support system is the cooling of a seal chamber and it’s parts. To achieve the right and safe effect in terms of sealing, correct barrier fluids have to be chosen. These fluids have the task to dissipate the heat which is caused by the frictional forces of the seal faces. A constant flow of this fluid guarantees an exchange of heated fluid with cooled fluid. Furthermore a barrier pressure should be generated to keep leaking product off the atmosphere.

There are many varieties of support plans in the industry, suitable for every case. These plans are documented in the API 682, by the “American Petroleum Institute”. This Institute describes the newest standards for the sealing industry. In summary a support plan can be designed without pressure (TS-System) by natural flow of heat- and cooling fluids. A high efficient solution of a mechanical seal support system can be a heavy duty barrier fluid unit (NSE-54), which increases the cooling effect at the seal faces and boosts the amount of circulating barrier fluid due to a pump.

STB offers for every mechanical seal support application the right solution. We have a wide product range, starting off with a standard supply tank (TS-12) for simple tasks and the support of double mechanical seals. For higher heat removals TS Systems with integrated cooling coil, sensors for process tracking, level-, temperature- and pressure control are also available. On the field of barrier pressure/-fluid units, we offer our NSE product range. Our NSE-53 and NSE-54 are available as standard units with short delivery times. 

These units are individually expandable and are suited for the existing mains voltage. The process parameters are analyzed in one unit.

Therefore STB IT-Dpt. developed software which allows detecting the data graphically and statistically on a control center. This increases the operational safety and lifetime of a seal heavily. It’s our pleasure that our representatives and internal engineering staff assists you at any time.

TS-9

The TS-system, TS-9 is designed for the purpose of supporting mechanical seals. Scope of these systems are single face mechanical seals with throttle bushes as well as double faced mechanical seals.

API 53B support system

The product range of STB support systems also includes supply units according to API 682 – 53B. The use of a well know standardizes and certified bladder accumulators and STB designed air fin pipes built on a standard system offers OEMs and end customers a perfect fit on a wide range of applications. Available in many configurations. Bladder accumulator size 10 Liter / 20 Liter / 32 Liter / 50 Liter with C-Steel or Stainless steel shells. As elastomer NBR or FKM.

NSE-54

The heavy duty support system NSE-54 is a hydraulic unit for the support of numerous mechanical seals. It’s capable to compensate leakages which occur during operation of every wet running mechanical seal in operation, while ensuring a safe and stable sealing process. Pressure drops are also compensated. Unless it’s not preset by a safety valve, the pressure is individually settable

for every single connected mechanical seal by the operator. The software allows a constant monitoring of the NSE-54 and documents operating conditions. Emergency shut downs are installed that even if failures occur, the other working seals will never be affected and the sealing process can be running. This function is set starting at 2 support lines.

Testing Facilities

To assure the highest standards of quality and provide our customers the best product possible, at STB, we have top-tier testing facilities for all kinds of seals and systems. Temperature, pressure, flow and several relevant parameters are continuously measured for an extended period of time in order to guarantee a top performance of our products at any application.

Quality assurance

All of our produced products go through strict quality control programs during the whole process chain to make the products as traceable as possible. Therefore we have implemented standardized quality assurance methods to check and monitor the product during the manufacturing process. The standardized failure detection procedures allow us to analyse the cause for an error and they are based on regular 8-D Reports. The whole manufacturing process is added with material traceability, exclude material mix up to the highest level possible, while also using logistic programs. Many of our quality assurance programs were developed in close cooperation with our renowned business partners around the globe, which have very high quality standards. This big emphasis on quality assurance gives us and our partners the highest rate possible on reliability. Nevertheless we keep developing our quality assurance department (QAD) to ensure we remain leading in the fields of carbon products. The latest investments in new quality measuring devices and employees underline the position of the managing board to keep and strengthen our position as a competitive business partner in production time and quality claims. We also take advantage of renowned companies to audit us many times per year. On a technical level STB is in possession of many calibrated measuring devices.

We measure the surface roughness with calibrated devices and detect the contour with the help of CAD coordinates measuring machines. Even parts manufactured in serial production go through specially developed processes for

quality assurance, to keep high lifetime and to ensure the highest availability possible. Due to those methods, we are reducing downtimes and repair times caused by quality defects as much as possible. To keep this high level of quality, we also request our suppliers to have high understanding of quality. We chose the suppliers carefully and pay close attention to all given guidelines from quality management, whilst monitoring them constantly.

 We also develop quality assurance in theds of environment and safety at work and have integrated them as an important aspect of the company.
